Avocado: Healthy Eating or Hype?

Nowadays we are trying to eat healthy food, to exercise and do all the things that will improve our lives. Avocado is one of those fruits that offers us a lot of benefits and also has a good taste. They have almost 20 vitamins and minerals such as folate(very good during pregnancy ), lutein (help with the eyes problems) and potassium( is good for blood pressure).An excellent source of vitamins C and E, avocados also give you the vitamins B which is very good in preventing and treating infection and disease. They are suitable for those who want to lose weight too because they contain fiber and that is how helps you feel no hunger for a longer time.

Even if they are high in fat, it is good to know that this fat is monosaturated and helps with decreasing of the cholesterol. Most of the fruits have a lot of carbohydrates, but this one is a very different type, being full of healthy fats. Studies showed how beneficial could be for our health, here are some of them:


  • It is a very nutritious fruit and can be added to many kinds of foods because of its excellent texture and nice flavor. Due to its health properties, lately it has become a trendy food, and many people call it a super-food.
  • It is very high in potassium (that nutrient that we all need but many of us cannot get enough from alimentation) and many types of research show that it helps with kidney, heart attacks, and blood pressure.
  • Is full of healthy fats and mostly is an oleic acid which has some significant effects in some cancer genes, reduce inflammation.
  • Has many fibers in its composition and that can help a lot with weight loss and lower blood sugar.
  • Helps with fighting against heart disease. Some studies were made, and the results were excellent showing that eating avocado can: increase the good cholesterol, reduces blood triglycerides and helps in preventing heart issues.
  • They are full of antioxidants that can protect eyes. Avocado has some nutrients called zeaxanthin and lutein which can reduce cataracts and macular degradation(which are very common with the old people). Therefore this can help with eye health for an extended period.
  • Avocado is delicious and easy to introduce it into your diet. Their rich, creamy texture can be mix very well with other ingredients. You can eat the simple as they are, or you can add them to many kinds of recipes or salads.
  • Help you lose weight. In this time, when diets are all over the place, and we don’t know what to eat, how to combine better the food to maintain us thin and healthy, avocado can be a wise choice. Very low in carb but very high in fiber, they are wonderful because they keep you full for a long time and at the same time they taste pretty good.
  • May help with the cancer prevention. There is not too much evidence with this, but some studies showed that it could reduce those awful effects that chemotherapy has on humans body.

As you can see, avocado it seems to be a fantastic food so you should try it and take full advantage of these beneficial aspects.
